Why buy property in Marche?

If you are looking for good places to buy a property in Italy, the Marche region may be worth your consideration. We all know about the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, the cultural hotspots of Rome and Venice as well as the stunning Amalfi coast but there are some lesser known gems in Italy that should not be overlooked for those looking to buy an Italian property. The region of Marche is one of them!

Macerata, Marche Italy

Marche is still relatively unspoilt and quiet in comparison to the likes of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria for instance. Which means it’s also more affordable to buy property there and living costs are cheaper too! You can snap up a restoration of a small property for as little as €25,000, or a traditional country house, with rustic features, in the hills for just €90,000. Even luxury properties are significantly more affordable, €300,000-€500,000 will buy you something pretty spectacular!

Sitting between the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Apennine Mountains to the west, the Marche region offers the best of both for those who enjoy skiing and beach holidays. With 16 blue flag beaches, along its 180 kilometres of Adriatic coastline, including Pesaro, Conero and Portonovo, Marche boasts some of the best pebble and sandy beaches in Italy. While inland, the sloped landscape offers fantastic hiking trails, cycle routes and ski resorts. There are also plenty of rustic hillside towns for the culture buffs – Urbino and Ascoli Piceno are both well worth a visit – not to mention great local cuisine.

Monte Conero, Marche, Italy

The hilly parts of the region are peppered with small quaint towns, many of which still celebrate local traditions and make visiting the likes of Mount Vettore or the lakes – Pilato, Cingoli and Fiastra, to name a few – a very enjoyable weekend activity, both in winter or summer!

Its central location means that Marche is a great location to buy an Italian property, especially if you’re interested in travelling throughout the country. Plus, Italy’s Marche region has good transport connections via air, train and motorway making properties attractive to holiday renters. Marche’s capital, Ancona, is serviced by daily flights from London Stansted, and Rome and Bologna airports are also within two hours or so. Train links from Milan have also been improved in recent years.

So, if you’re looking to buy an Italian property away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy towns and after truly authentic Italian experience, then Marche might just be the place for you.
