In order to avoid problems you must ensure that you instruct a reputable lawyer who is independent from the estate agent, developer or seller (so steer clear of the ones they recommend to you and find your own!). 3. Get in touch with a CURRENCY SPECIALIST before you go out to view properties. Currency specialists can save you A LOT of money on the purchase of an overseas property (we are literally talking thousands of euros). Although the bulk of the purchase price will be paid on completion, if you find a property you like on your trip, the chances are you will be asked to pay some form of deposit to secure the property.
